Barkhana

"Used to live such a uncomplicated life"

Our first cycle...a red colored hero...normal...cycle, with no gizmo's attached...and the pain of learning.

Learning to ride it ...half pedal, ( hmm..difficult to explain, you ride the cycle with one hand on the handle and the other on the bar, connecting the seat and the handle, with your legs pedalling )

shitting in the school..( very embarrasing), from here onwards I was disowned by my sisters

yoga classes in the school...

Death...of one of my classmates...sister of rakesh

The school was divided in several blocks or barracks...The school was located in Ramgarh cant( Infamous for bhinderwale rising)

Class three, being asked by teacher to become a murga..., watching suresh getting 11 players out in a game of tangri

asked to be part of the marching band

Contiue on our stay at Barkakhana...near Ranchi

Hmmmm...slightly older now...so I remember more.....but of course...here it goes

PLESE REMEMBER THIS IS A AGE OF NO TELEVISION OR MOBILE PHONES, WE ARE TALKING A LONG TIME BACK

ALSO I WAS A GOOD LOOKING CHILD WITH BEAUTIFUL EYES

We went to Barkakhana, not exactly sure as to how I we reached from Singrauli to Barkhana, I think it was the train, however do not remember anything about the journey now..

The first memories were that of the rest house, do not remember the interior however what I remember is the gate a big wide one it was situated at the end of the street, we got a house which was at the other end of the same street.

We shifted to this quarter it had a wide and long Maidan ( Playground ) in front of the house, after that there was the main road and then the coal india (CCL) quarter where my Father was working.

Next was going to school, again not sure how this started, however we had two stands which were at the opposite ends of the street, one was stand 2 ( or the second stand where the bus used to stop, you would get a place to sit.) and the last or most probably the last stand were you WILL not get a place to sit. there were two buses a blue and a orange one I liked the blue one, it was somehow better and faster... do not know why...anyway even though we lived about two houses away from stand 2 and 7 or 8 houses away from the last stand we ( me and my sisters) very often missed the bus at stand 2 and when we got them our Father would be running to the last stand to give us our tiffins .....

The layout of the house was 2 bedroom with attached bathrooms a dining room a store room a Kitchen a drawing room with a small patio and a large aangan( not sure what is it called in english)

Had a big garage for the Jeep first and later on the Garage was extended for the sky blue ambassodor ( Mark 4) trhe first car dad bought...

Remember Rambilas Ji our driver ...very nice man...perhaps one person my father was lucky to get.

Also there were two two DOGS which was adopted by about 5 or 6 houses I remember the name of one...BHOLU...

The famous family of teachers who used to be called MADDA's, I went there for about two days...Their SON was called the CHOTKA MADDA....HA HA.., all the kids who used to go there did not like them...the SON (poor guy) was at a receiving end of lot of things...

They had a house with two small rooms whioch used to get filled with kids from all over BARKAKHANA,
our Neighbour's SON used to go there..DIPON ( Great family freinds, still in touche with them)...dipon was special( he is currently the General Manager of tamarind tree hotels), I have never seen or heard a person who was so liked and riduculed all my life...he was called Murga because of the the way the three hairs used to stand up ...in the middle of summers and it used to be hot he used to wear sweaters under his shirts beacuse that way he was not hurt when hit by BADA MADDA..used to carry Mungfali to the tuitions, always getting caught for the wrong reasons always getting beaten up, in cntrast to his brother Sutu DA, who was intelligent and composed, to add to all this Dipon used to stutter as well...

We ( My sisters and me) along with Dipon used to have a meeting as soon as we used to get beaten up by our parents, it usually was me and Rini , Jhini was not beaten I do not remember her getting beaten up at all. Funny thing was we were beaten because we did not study...and either Dipon would watch us getting beaten or we would see Dipon getting beaten up, which would result in a ill timed laugh and would then result in the chain reaction of beating from one house to another culminating at the middle spot in the partition wall with a meeting of voicing are opinion to each other about the beating.
